The Lakewood CC is a golf course designed by David Dale, the world’s leading golf course designer. The course is total 36holes which is divided into 6,404meters in Lake Course, and 6,470meters in Wood Course.
HISTORY / BACKGROUND
We installed LED lights on the public course (Wood Course). The Wood Course consists of a combination of strategies that can be experienced at international competitions.
For that reason, from single golfers to weekend amateur golfers, all golfers can enjoy golf course and enjoy the dramatic nature. Lakewood CC is a field where Phillips MVF403 2Kw products are already installed. It is a field that can verify LED performance compared to MHN. Especially, every 9 hole has a Par5 course which is designed to attack over the big pond and then on the green, this course gives us a very impressive game. Golfers with the ability to draw and fade shots can feel a bit more special experience with Blue Tee. For that reason, it is important to outstanding lighting design of fairway and green lighting because of the nature of the long holes.
Lakewood CC runs public and membership at the same time, so you can see the LED performance is proven. The place was installed in 2017 when the High-power floodlight was not generalized in the sports industry; it shows us the advanced technology of JINWOO ELTEC.
The importance of Fairway illumination
The typical specifications for Fairway illumination are as follows below.
Lux level (horizontal): Class I =100lux, Class II=75lux
Overall Uniformity: Class I =0.5 oU, Class II =0.5 oU

On an 18-hole golf course, there are Par3 is 4 holes, Par4 is 10holes, and Par5 is 10holes to become a total of 72 pars in 18 hole course
Therefore the illumination of the fairway is important; in case of the each hole length is long like Lakewood. Since the 7 or 8 iron shots have a vertical elevation of 20 meters or more, it is very important to plan a fairway with uniformity and vertical illumination so that the ball’s trajectory can be seen clearly.

VENUE
Lakewood CC is located in Yangju, Gyunggi-do and is a prestigious golf course that operates both to the public and to those with memberships.
CHALLENGE
The first Par5 hall is 524m, the second Par4 hall is 501m which is the longest length as challenging as a long road and it is a place that needs to be designed with a focus on uniformity due to the nature of the wide fairway. Power hitter could be succeeded in hitting 2 strokes on the Green from the TEE BOX. So the well-organized lighting plan was the essential part to offer golfers crystal clear visibility from the TEE BOX.
SCOPE
For the optimal lighting plan of long distance fairways, it was designed according to uniformity to have even illumination and to focus on reducing the fairway shade.
SOLUTION To improve the uniformity of long distance golf course, we adopted narrow beam angle in LED lightings, and planned to prevent shadows at the ball drop point. Also, due to the nature of the course, the shade of the bunker located in front of the green is minimized and makes the game proceed more smoothly in a timely fashion. RESULT We could secure the clear sight when the ball flying in arc by reaching brighter and uniformity of light with our products which are not inferior compared MVF403 and also making the best reflection of user's comfort by lighting designing which are not recognized the difference between MHN and LED. We could achieve electricity saving about 48% compared MHN. |
